Investigating Modern Brazil

Brazil is the fifth-largest country in the world and has the sixth-largest economy. It’s growing five-per-cent year-on-year, its property market is booming and it’s about to host the 2014 World Cup.

It’s also home to corruption, poverty, civil unrest and a populace angry at the quality of its failing public transport, health, education and security systems. Government projects are promised then delayed for years, if they ever happen at all.

This is an exploration into both sides of Brazil, by those who live there and walk the streets. It will go further than the bright lights of Carnaval, the stricken favelas of Rio de Janeiro and the statuesque models that cover the top fashion magazines.
